2018 Art of Music Announces Performers and Artworks! Image

Jenny Morris and Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy? have today announced the details of the 2018 Art of Music Collection to be auctioned at Sydney's most unique and dynamic fundraising event, Art of Music, at the Art Gallery of New South Wales on Saturday, 23 June, 2018.

Art of Music is not your standard fundraising dinner. Founded by Jenny Morris, Art of Music is pure creative genius and is one of the most talked about and memorable fundraisers on the Sydney event circuit.

Art of Music takes Australia's music royalty, pairs them up with Australia's greatest living artists and then unites them with one of the world's most inspirational charities, Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy.

A group of top contemporary visual artists each choose a song or musical artist to inspire a piece of artwork. The artists can take their inspiration from the melody, the lyrics, the album cover or even the singer. It's entirely up to them as to how they interpret the music. The artwork is then auctioned during a gala dinner in the spectacular Grand Court of the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Without further ado, this year's amazing visual artists and their subjects, are:

Ben Quilty: Paul Kelly
Guy Maestri: Marlon Williams
Holly Greenwood: Don't Let The Kids Win by Julia Jacklin
Joshua Yeldham: We Gon Boogaloo by C.W. Stoneking
Laura Jones: In The Air by DMA's
Leila Jeffries: Frantic Romantic by The Scientists
Lucy Culliton: The Dogs by The Fumes
Luke Sciberras: When The River Runs Dry by Hunters and Collectors
Nicholas Harding: Neil Finn
Yvette Coppersmith: Heaven (Must Be There) by Eurogliders

Art of Music 2018 will once again include three very special musical performances highlighting the works of art on display on the night and we are thrilled to announce that Mark Seymour from Hunters & Collectors, Julia Jacklin and Ainslie Wills will all appear.

Our MC for the night will be the one and only Jonathan Biggins.

As well as the opportunity of bidding on works from the 2018 Art of Music Collection, there will also be some very special raffle prizes on offer at the event.

Jenny Morris said "In the years I've been running the Art Of Music event I've tried to build its reputation not just as a representation of excellence in Australian Art and Music but, importantly, as an access point to newly arrived and up and coming names in those areas.

"This year's Art of Music event will introduce you to exciting new talents in the art world. As well as superstars such as Ben Quilty, Nicholas Harding and Joshua Yeldham, there is Brett Whitely scholarship finalist Holly Greenwood (daughter of Hugo Weaving), Leila Jeffries, the classic bird portrait photographer, and 4 time Archibald Prize finalist, Yvette Coppersmith."

Morris added, "In keeping with the idea of having well known and cutting edge musicianship, Art of Music will present musical performances by the exquisite singer/song writers, Julia Jacklin and Ainslie Wills, who are both about to explode on the international stage and the masterful Mark Seymour of Hunters and Collectors fame. The event is all about high quality art and high quality partying!"

Hi res pictures of the artworks are available here. The folder will be updated as each new artwork has been delivered.

All proceeds from the Gala Dinner and Charity Auction go to Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy? a not-for-profit organisation providing internationally recognised music programs to assist those less advantaged. Registered Music Therapists use the power of music in live and interactive sessions to help people cope with the struggles of living with a wide range of needs. These include children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities, autism, trauma, illness, Dementia, mental health issues, behaviour disorders and learning difficulties.
