Matthew McConaughey in Talks for Christopher Nolan's INTERSTELLAR

If Christopher Nolan has it his way, Matthew McConaughey will soon be heading to space.

According to Deadline, the acclaimed director has officially offered the lead in his upcoming film INTERSTELLAR to the actor.

Should McConaughey accept (and why wouldn't he? It's Nolan after all) he would take on the role of a man named 'Cooper' in the film that will reportedly folow a heroic interstellar voyage to the farthest borders of our scientific understanding.

Directed and written by Academy Award-nominee Nolan ("INCEPTION," "THE DARK KNIGHT RISES"), "INTERSTELLAR" is based on a script by Jonathan Nolan. The film will be produced by Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan of Syncopy Films and Obst of Lynda Obst Productions. Kip Thorne will executive produce.

Paramount Pictures handling Domestic distribution and Warner Bros. Pictures distributing the film Internationally. "INTERSTELLAR" will be released beginning November 7, 2014, in theaters and IMAX.

McConaughey gained notice for his breakout role in Dazed and Confused (1993). He then appeared in films such as A Time to Kill, Contact, U-571, Tiptoes, Sahara, We Are Marshall, The Lincoln Lawyer, and Magic Mike. McConaughey is best known more recently for his performances as a leading man in the romantic comedies The Wedding Planner, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Failure to Launch, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, and Fool's Gold. He can next be seen in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street.
