Last night (Tuesday, April 4, 2017), Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill held the finale event of their Spring 2017 Sommelier Smackdown Series atDowntown Summerlin. The fate of Round 1 victor Jenna Boyer (Lupo by Wolfgang Puck at Mandalay Bay) and Round 2 winner Luis de Santos (Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits of Nevada) was left up to guests last night who collectively crowned finale favorite Luis de Santos, who took home the coveted Sommelier Smackdown championship belt along with the ultimate bragging rights.
Last night's main event took over Bar & Grill's dining room where the crowd was wild with anticipation to start off the evening's festivities. There to bring the energy and lead the competition courses was Jon "Jersey" Goldman, MC and beloved local DJ from KLUC 98.5. As guests took their seats, the event began with a bang as both sommeliers introduced their first course pairings set to the full menu of Executive Chef Spencer Rudow. The finale menu included Jumbo Shrimp Scampi, English Pea Agnolotti, Grilled Lamb Chop and finished with a delectable Dark Chocolate Cremeux. Final remarks were made by the restaurant management team and Joe Phillips, Director of Wine Education and Trade Development with Southern Glazier's Wine & Spirits of Nevada as the crowd roared with excitement once de Santos name was announced to the room.
