BOLOGNA, Italy, January 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/

FIGARO, an EU-funded international project focused on developing the new precision agriculture Decision Support System (DSS) to improve irrigation management for increasing water productivity, will hold its Annual Partners Meeting from January 25-27, 2016 at the "Accademia delle Scienze" of the University of Bologna.

Representatives of all 17 consortium members will attend the conference to prepare for the final phase of the project, which will end in September 2016. The main goal is to present the new platform's benefits of fresh water and energy savings in crop irrigation and demonstrate how it works.

The benefits and capabilities of the FIGARO System will be presented through live demonstrations of the platform in six countries including Denmark, Greece, Israel, Italy, Portugal and Spain. This will be accomplished via open field days at each of the FIGARO sites beginning in March 2016.

"The meeting is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the capabilities of the FIGARO Platform," said project coordinator Lior Doron, director of New Product Development at Netafim Ltd. "The results we have achieved in water and energy savings are outstanding, and I am looking forward to sharing them with our stakeholders."

The field days will be targeted at local growers, agricultural enterprises and agronomic service companies, as well as local and regional authorities and associations involved in agriculture, water, energy and environment management.

The demo days will provide stakeholders with the opportunity to obtain free live demonstrations of how the platform works. They will be able to get a first-hand impression of the platform's user friendliness and how it integrates with farmers' daily operations.

The FIGARO demonstrations will show small farmers and large agricultural entities the benefits of using individualized irrigation recommendations that are more efficient and compliant with water regulation while producing improved yield.
