The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events have announced the Chicago premiere of Paradis, by a canary torsi | Yanira Castro. This site-specific contemporary dance piece will be performed at the Garfield Park Conservatory (300 N. Central Park Ave) today, August 6 - Thursday, August 8 at 8 p.m. each evening. The performance is free, however reservations are recommended.

Paradis is a performance and audio installation with live piano performed outdoors at twilight. Inspired by the final section of Jena-Luc Godard's 2004 film, "Notre Musique", Paradis continues Castro's exploration of the space between the performer and audience member: The tension in the simultaneous experience of distance and intimacy inherent in the live performed moment.

This unique dance piece will be held throughout to the Garfield Park Conservatory and is free to the public. Audience members will meet at the front entrance to the Conservatory for the 8 p.m. performance. To reserve a free admission ticket for Paradis, visit http://dcase-eorg.eventbrite.com. This performance is not recommended for children under the age of 12.

This performance is presented as part of an ongoing collaboration between the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and the Chicago Park District. Arts programming in neighborhoods advances the goals of the Chicago Cultural Plan and the Night Out in the Parks initiative.
