The Sweet Charity Dance On Broadway Contest, sponsored by Marie Claire and the producers of Sweet Charity, has announced a winner.
The contest offered Broadway hopefuls everywhere the opportunity to appear in the hit Broadway revival Sweet Charity starring Christina Applegate. Ten finalists were selected from entrants nationwide and competed for votes via the Sweet Charity website. Thousands of votes were cast and Diana Reed has been chosen as the winner.
On Friday, December 16, Reed, from Norwalk, Iowa, was flown to New York City to prepare for her 'Broadway debut.' Over the past few days Reed enjoyed private dance lessons with the Sweet Charity choreography team (led by Wayne Cilento), was fitted for a costume and a wig and attended a performance of Sweet Charity. Reed, a student at the University of Iowa who has been dancing for 18 years, said of this opportunity, 'I am beyond thrilled. This is truly a dream come true for me."Sweet Charity, which is directed by Walter Bobbie and features a score by Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields and a book by Neil Simon (based on the Fellini film Nights of Cabiria), will close on December 31st.
