National Dance Week at Velocity begins with performances that bring together emerging talents from the East and West Coasts: SCUBA 2013 features Green Chair Dance Group (Philadelphia), Seattle choreographer Shannon Stewart and a world premiere by Seattle's Maureen Whiting. Community events taking place in tandem with SCUBA include a Master Class "Ready. Fire. Aim." with Shannon Stewart, a post-show conversation immediately following Saturday's performance and a Happy Hour Speakeasy Conversation: Next Wave? at Boom Noodle with the SCUBA artists.
Velocity celebrates International Dance Day (April 29) by kicking off a 5-day Improvisation workshop with leading ImPulsTanz teaching artist and international performer Montreal's Andrew Harwood. The week closes with a 20th Anniversary SFDI Celebratory Improvisation Jam and potluck to celebrate two decades of the Anniversary of the Seattle Festival of Dance Improvisation, Velocity's world-renowned summer dance festival focused on improvisational dance and related fields.
