World Ballet Day 2017 will take place tomorrow, October 5. For a fourth year in a row The Royal Ballet, The Australian Ballet, The Bolshoi Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada, and The San Francisco Ballet will partner to showcase the wonders of ballet dancing, as well as a behind the scenes look at life in some of the world's top ballet companies.
For one day, viewers of World Ballet Day 2017 will get a glimpse into the everyday life of these prestigious ballet companies, watching everything from technique classes, to rehearsals, to what it's like backstage. Each ballet company invites other companies close to their location to participate in world ballet day. This year includes: The National Ballet of Japan, Singapore Dance Theatre, The National Ballet of China, Ballets du Monte Carlo, Birmingham Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, Scottish Ballet, Northern Ballet, Houston Ballet and Ballet West.
Highlights from World Ballet Day 2016 include a full class and a rehearsal of Sleeping Beauty at The Royal Ballet, instruction of basic foot placements in ballet, and a look into what daily classes for the company members are like.
The live broadcast of World Ballet Day 2017 begins with The Australian Ballet, and continues through the morning with glimpses into The Bolshoi Ballet and The Royal Ballet. This year, to keep the day interactive, viewers can send in videos of themselves doing ballet moves using the hashtag #BalletNoFilter, and some favorites will be shared during the live stream!
