For this our 4Oth Anniversary Season, Kanopy will present three weekend of provocative dance-vivid performances inspired by Martha Graham's teachings of tension and release-- but works that are Kanopy's own-created in collaboration with artists and chroreographers from around the globe.

Sunday 2:30pm
Hope, despair, joy, rage, beauty, ugliness of the heart... the Ying Yang of the spirit... Juxtaposed. Guest Artists include Chicago's Winifred Haun & Dancers. Kanopy Dance is honored to present the American Dance Masterwork "Lynchtown" by Charles Weidman. Created in 1936, this work is a chilling portrait of a community consumed by fear and violence. Haun's Company will present excerpts from "Promise" inspired by Steinbeck's East of Eden. Kanopy's Co Artistic Director Robert E Cleary will stage his provocative "This is Not America," where the blind eye is turned from truth. Lisa Thurrell, Kanopy Co Artistic director, brings to the stage the beautiful and romantic "Come Months, come Away." Loved by audiences, this dance celebrates the poetry of Keats, Bronte and Shelley; and in movement style pays homage to Graham, Humphrey & Weidman; bringing hope and beauty from the darkness.
