Nashville Ballet returns to its roots to kick off the 2014-2015 performance season with one of the world's best known ballets, Swan Lake. This classical story ballet, presented by nFocus Magazine and Bridgestone Americas, takes the stage for the first time since 2010 at TPAC's Jackson Hall, this weekend, October 17-19. Tickets start at $28 and can be purchased in person at the TPAC box office in downtown Nashville, by phone at (615) 782-4040 or at www.NashvilleBallet.com.
This quintessential, romantic ballet tells of the story of a love destined to transcend a sorcerer's curse. Accompanied by the mesmerizing, seamless formations of her charmed maidens, the Swan Queen comes to life through the grace and elegance of choreography from Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov and an iconic score by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, performed by the Nashville Symphony.
"This ballet is always a favorite of mine to revisit," Nashville Ballet Artistic Director & CEO Paul Vasterling said. "Its beauty, power and technicality make it one of the most important ballets for the dancers and audience to experience. Its elegance and historical significance as one of the most compelling and popular ballets keeps it relevant time and time again."
This timeless, theatrical production will see the return of Sadie Bo Harris in the lead role of Odette/Odile. She will alternate performances with Kayla Rowser, who will be dancing the role for the first time in her career. Both ballerinas are long-time members of Nashville Ballet.
"My hope in performing Odette/Odile for the second time is that my performance will be the full expression of what I have to offer as a dancer," Harris said. "I'm so excited to see Kayla take on these roles that are on every young dancer's checklist. She'll bring a lighter feel to her character that will refresh my interpretation."
Swan Lake will also feature 22 members of the professional company along with more than 20 dancers from Nashville Ballet's second company (NB2) and School of Nashville Ballet Academy.
