Grupo Corpo return to the Bass Concert Hall stage hot on the heels of their stunning performance at the 2016 Rio Olympics Closing Ceremony! The world-renown company are hailed for reflecting the diversity and rich color of Brazil with their seductive movement, adventurous music, vibrant costuming, sets, and lighting.

Founded in 1975 by Paulo Pederneiras, Grupo Corpo (translates to Body Group) and their work are a true melting pot of cultural and artistic influences. Their captivating style grafts the flexibility of modern dance and rhythmic complexity of Afro-Brazilian dance onto ballet, captivating audiences with stunningly sexy physicality, dynamic ability, and rich visual finesse. Music is a vital performance component, and inspires the choreography and other aspects of the production. From classical to experimental, Afro-Brazilian to pop, and minimalism, each score is specifically composed for the work and gives Grupo Corpo its unique expression.

Grupo Corpo's upcoming performance introduces two new works to the Bass Concert Hall stage. Created in 2015 to celebrate their 40th anniversary, Dança Sinfônica is a breathtaking homage to the wide range of Grupo Corpo's repertoire. With a backdrop of more than a thousand photographs from the company's storied past, this spirited piece floats on a symphonic score combining evocative original works with classical favorites. Suíte Branca, a ballet in white, implies a relationship with the ground. Pendular movement, suspensions, and undulations meld together to defy and interact with the law of gravity.

In addition to $10 tickets for primary, secondary, and college students, Texas Performing Arts is now offering a limited number of $12 tickets to active and retired military personnel for all 2016-2017 Essential Series performances (excludes Broadway and special engagements). A military ID is required. For a schedule of upcoming 2016-2017 season performances, please visit www.TexasPerformingArts.org.
