Tapestry Dance Company to Perform Spring Concert this Weekend

Tapestry Dance Company, North America's only repertory tap dance company and Resident Dance Company of the Long Center, presents their Spring Concert premiere, Rhythm, Reason & Reality,April 4th - 6th at the Long Center (www.thelongcenter.org), 701 W. Riverside Drive, Austin.

Rhythm, Reason & Reality is a collection of electrifying rhythmic creations for Tapestry Dance Company including the premiere acapella tap work "Anacruses" (1990) "Listen" fromFootprints (2005) and additional works from Voices of Rhythm, Ears Wide Open (Austin Chronicle's "Best Dance Concert") and The NEA American Masterpieces production of The Souls of Our Feet among others. In addition, audiences can expect Jazz, R&B and spoken word jazz woven throughout the performance showcasing the company as ensemble, musicians and showcased improvisational artists.

Acia Gray, Tapestry Dance Company Co-Founder and Artistic Director will also be performing as a soloist as well as Emcee. This concert marks Ms. Gray's long-awaited return to the stage since taking a medical leave of absence more than two years ago.

She explains the concept driving the performance, "Rhythm, Reason & Reality is a journey of rhythm: its relationship to the dancer, to the audience and to the listener on and off stage.

The show also brings together our eclectic and world class artists from across the country and abroad proudly representing the only full-time, professional tap dance company in North America."

Music highlights include the vocal stylings of Ken Nordine, Oscar Peterson, Hank Smith, J. Nichole Noel and Austin's own multi award-winning ATASH world music band among many others. Lighting by Resident Lighting Designer, Stephen Pruitt.

Rhythm, Reason & Reality runs Friday, April 4th at 8:00 pm, & Saturday matineeat 2:00 pm, and 8:00 pm and a 2:00 pmSunday matinee at the Long Center. Tickets are $25 general admission ($18 for students) and $20 general admission for Saturday matinee, ($15 for students).

The concert runs approximately 90 minutes with one intermission/
