Tango Fire to Bring FLAMES OF DESIRE to Merriam Theater, 10/20

Direct from Buenos Aires, Tango Fire returns to Philadelphia to perform a newly choreographed program,Flames of Desire, on Sunday October 20 at 4 p.m. in the Merriam Theater. The genesis of young choreographer German Cornejo, Flames of Desire incorporates new acrobatic and ballet elements into traditional tango, and weaves audiences through the history of tango from the barrios of Buenos Aires into cabaret through decades to its rising popularity as the contemporary dance form.

Tango Fire's program showcases ten dancers-five recent world tango champions-accompanied onstage by four Argentine musicians, Quarteto Fuego, and led by the sultry violin virtuosa, Estefani Corsini.

Set against the musical backdrop of Astor Piazzolla, Mores, Gardel, Rodriguez and other tango masters, Tango Fire introduces five couples on stage performing their own individual solos as they unfold a sizzling and unique interpretation of tango.

Tickets are available for $35.00 to $65.00, and can be purchased by calling 215-893-1999, online at kimmelcenter.org, at the KimMel Center box office located at Broad & Spruce streets (open daily 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.).

The Tango Fire Company of Buenos Aires was formed in 2005 and premiered in Singapore in April of that year. In August 2005 the show was presented at the Edinburgh Festival where it was highly successful, resulting in engagements in the most prestigious venues around the world. The company has toured extensively over the last eight year within the United States, Canada, the U.K., Europe, Asia and South Africa to the highest acclaim. Tango Fire is choreographed by critically acclaimed Argentine choreographer & dancer German Cornejo. The dance troupe's dancers are given the artistic freedom to choreograph their own solo work with German Cornejo refining the step, traditional in the world of Argentine tango.
