J.U.S.T. Toys Productions, an international art collective, presents Marius von Mayenburg's The Dog, The Night, and The Knife at the Irondale Theater inFort Greene, Brooklyn, March 15-April 6, 2019. Presented in part with Irondale, this Kafkaesque, dystopian love story fosters rich artistic collaboration and initiates cross-cultural discussions. The U.S. Premiere of the work highlights outstanding professionals from Europe in alliance with exceptional American theater makers. Julia Ubrankovics (Theater Les Halles - Avignon, 59E59) and Tunde Skovran (Hungarian State Theatre of Cluj, CircleX) star alongside Dieterich Gray(Yale Repertory, Steppenwolf), under the direction of internationally acclaimed director Yuri Kordonsky (Maly Drama Theater - St. Petersburg, Professor in the Practice of Directing - Yale School of Drama).

In Mayenburg's original 2008 premiere at the Schaubühne, Berlin, The Dog, The Night and The Knife is centered around a character named Mwho gets lost on the way home, with the clock mysteriously at a standstill-M's encounters seek to kill M in order to feed their ravenous hunger for human flesh.

In developing this 2019 iteration, the J.U.S.T Toys team look deeper at Mayenburg's themes and center this production around ideas of trust, safety, love, logic versus emotion, dream versus reality, and immortality versus murder. Re-envisioned by director Yuri Kordonsky, M is trapped in a nightmarish world full of blood-thirsty strangers - both human and canine. In this town, the desire to love becomes a desire to possess. In this town, "I want you" becomes "I want to eat you" and a lover quickly becomes prey- literally. Haunted by the demons of destruction (Gray), "Younger Sister" (Skovran) discovers new unfamiliar feelings towards "M" in an exploration of the possibility of love amidst a cannibalistic dystopia.

"The Dog, The Night, and The Knife is a provocative exploration of this struggle for power and connection, with generous doses of humor, a kill-or-be-killed plot, and the sensibility of existentialist theater." explains J.U.S.T. Toys founders and actors Julia Ubrankovicsand Tunde Skovran.

With an ensemble of 3 who play over 10 roles, The Dog, The Night, and the Knifeis set to an original music and soundscape by Lucian Ban (Tuba Project, Bluetopia, Hieroglyphics), with set and costume design by Oana Botez (The Public Theater, BAM, Baryshnikov Arts Center), choreography by Zsófia Nemes (PR-Evolution Dance Co.) and visual arts by Júlia Standovár (Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center)

The Dog, The Night, and The Knife will run from March 15-April 6 Monday, and Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

General admission tickets are $30 with discounts for students, seniors and working artists. Tickets can be purchased at http://bit.ly/DogNightKnife
