STePz, which had its world premiere at The Joyce Theater over the summer of 2013, fuses the past with the present, incorporating a music selection that ranges from the classical virtuosity of Shostakovich to the iconic pop songs of Prince. The selection of music and the choreography pays homage to some of Glover's favorite musicians and tap masters like John Coltrane, Stevie Wonder, tapper Steve Condos and Glover's one-time mentor Gregory Hines. Joining Glover are tapperS Marshall Davis, Jr. and the members of 3CW (3 Controversial Women): Ayodele Casel, Robyn Watson and Sarah Savelli.
Known throughout his career for his prodigious talent, the 40-year-old Glover is recognized as one of the most celebrated dance artists performing today, considered by many as the world's greatest living tapper. The notoriety has helped Glover achieve widespread and mainstream appeal - from his work on Broadway (Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk) to television (Sesame Street) to film (Happy Feet and Happy Feet 2).
The Family Series performance on January 25 features a special program tailored for families and children ages 4-10, a selection of dances chosen exclusively by Glover for an engaging, lively, exuberant hour-long performance. Glover's Family Series performance is just one of two left during the Harris Theater's 2013-2014 Family Series.
Tickets for Savion Glover's STePz are $30 - $55; tickets to the Harris Theater Family Series performance on January 25 are $10 - $15, available online at harristheaterchicago.org, or by calling the Harris Theater Box Office at 312-334-7777.
