San Francisco, CA, September 17, 2015 - Bay Area audiences will have a rare opportunity to experience dance from 40 world dance and music traditions as more than 1200 dancers in more than 100 dance companies audition for a coveted spot in the 2016 San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, scheduled for the first three weekends in June 2016, at the historic Palace of Fine Arts Theatre in San Francisco. The auditions will be held over two weekends- Saturday, November 7, 11 am to 7 pm; Sunday, November 8, Noon to 8 pm; and Saturday and Sunday, November 14 and 15, Noon to 8 pm at the Palace of Fine Arts. Each company will perform for 5-10 minutes and will be adjudicated by a panel of dance experts, along with Festival Artistic Directors Carlos Carvajal and CK Ladzekpo.
Tickets are just $10 for adults, paid in cash at the door, and children 12 and under are admitted for free. Audience members may stay as long as they like, and even come and go as they please, providing there are seats available in the theater. There are more than 1,000 parking spaces within a ten-minute walk of the Palace of Fine Arts, and the Festival website - www.sfethnicdancefestival.org - provides updated information about parking lot locations and directions to the theatre.
Included in the audition applicants from all over the Bay Area and Central and Northern California are 82 groups, 22 soloists and 6 duos, 45 of which are new to the Festival and 65 returning. Cultures, countries, and traditions that will be represented include Algeria, Argentina, Bali, Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Central and West Africa, China, Colombia, Congo, Cuba, Egypt and the Middle East, Ghana, Greece, Haiti, Hungary, India, Iran, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Nicaragua, Okinawa, Palestine, Peru, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Scotland, Senegal, South Africa, Spain, Tahiti, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, the US, and West Java.
