Founded by legendary dancer and former Prima Ballerina of The Bolshoi Theater Ballet, Maya Plissetskaya, The State Ballet Theatre of Russia, now under the direction of award-winning dancer and Moiseyev dance company soloist Nikolay Anokhin, presents one of the greatest classical ballets of all time. This full-scale production, set to the music of Tchaikovsky and based on Russian folklore and German legend, follows a heroic young prince as he works to free the beautiful swan maiden from an evil spell. The State Ballet Theatre of Russia is proud to present 50 of Russia's brightest ballet stars as they bring this romantic tale of true love to glorious life!
Formed in 1961, The State Ballet Theatre of Russia has established itself as one of Russia's leading ballet companies by building an international reputation for delivering performances of outstanding quality and depth. The soloists and corps de ballet include some of Russia's most accomplished dancers, and never fail to delight audiences with their breathtaking physical ability and dazzling costumes.
The State Ballet Theatre of Russia has toured with productions of traditional Russian classics throughout France, Germany, Holland and Czechoslovakia, as well as in India and throughout Africa. Numerous distinguished students of the famous Voronezh Choreographic College joined the State Ballet Theatre of Russia upon their graduation.
The William H. Gile Concert Series opened on December 16, 1960 after a legacy of more than $700,000 was left by Helen B. Gile to finance a free concert series for the residents of Concord. The bequest was made in memory of Miss Gile's father, William H. Gile.
