Dayton Contemporary Dance Company presents three dances inspired by the works of Jacob Lawrence on Saturday, February 20th at 8:00 PM.

Rooted in the African-American experience, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) has, in a mere 40 years, built from the ground up an institution of stunning originality and global reach. The company has performed to acclaim on both the national and international stage and holds the distinction of having produced and archived the largest collection of dance works by African-American artists.

This Rialto premiere performance-entitled "color-ography, n. the dances of Jacob Lawrence"-is a diverse program of modern dances inspired by the paintings of the famed Harlem Renaissance artist who depicted Black life in bright, narrative scenes.

Lawrence is among the best-known twentieth century African American painters, a distinction shared with Romare Bearden. Lawrence was only in his twenties when his "Migration Series" made him nationally famous. The series of paintings was featured in a 1941 issue of Fortune magazine. The series depicted the epic Great Migration of African Americans from the rural South to the urban North.

Ticket prices are $32-$56 and can be purchased online at www.rialtocenter.org or by calling the box office at 404-413-9849. Student discounts are available.
