Joshua Allen, winner of the fourth season of So You Think You Can Dance, who was featured in the 2011 remake of the Kevin Bacon film, Footloose, will teach a master workshop in hip-hop and contemporary dance at the "Take Flight With Us" Master Workshop, Saturday and Sunday, March 22 and 23 at Adage Dance Studio, 14747 Northsight Blvd, No. 106 in Scottsdale.

"Take Flight With Us" also offers Arizona dancers their first chance to experience and learn techniques for the explosively popular Cyr Wheel that blends acrobatics and dance moves using a large metal hoop - and popularized by performance companies including Cirque du Soleil.

Allen was 18 when he won the televised competition and followed that success as the choreographer for Oxygen Network's Dance Your Ass Off.

He has appeared on television shows including Ellen Degeneres and Bonnie Hunt as well as in videos and commercials for Honda and McDonald's and on stage venues across the country.

Cyr Wheel, or Roué Cyr, a complex art form combining dance, gymnastics and acrobatics which originated in the circus and is extremely popular in Canada and Europe, will be taught by Sam Tribble, the US World Team coach for the sport of Cyr Wheel and current Junior Olympics trainer in the Professional Development Program for USA Gymnastics. The former collegiate All-American gymnast also travels internationally performing the art of Cyr Wheel and acro adagio, stationary balancing performances involving two people, one acting as a "flier" and the other as a "base."

He will be joined by Roué Cyr expert, and his nephew, Jordan Tribble, currently teaching at The Aerial Classroom in North Hills California and an instructor at the Trapeze School New York.

Each Cyr Wheel-training session will begin with a 10-minute basic warm up and an introduction to the specialty. Beginner and intermediate classes will follow with basic wheel manipulation for safety and various "spinning" techniques. Advance classes will teach students with greater proficiency more advanced skills like spirals, one-legged coin, hangs and jump to support.

Cost for the two-day "Take Flight With Us" workshop is $240. Space is limited. Discounts are available for dance studios and college students and teachers bringing five or more students attend for free. Call (480) 296-8000 for discounts.
