Thursday, October 27th- R.Evolución Latina's 4th Annual Dance-A-Thon raised $53,811, doubling last years total after 6 weeks of fundraising. Donors, volunteers, supporters and Broadway performers joined fundraisers on Saturday October 22nd as they completed their commitment to dance for 5 hours at Slate NYC. Online contributions continued through the day as artists, RL campers and community members came together to celebrate music and dance from the past 6 decades starting with the 1950s.
Cast members from Aladdin, The Lion King, Hamilton and On Your Feet joined the organization to kick off the event. Founder/Director Luis Salgado and guest artists Maria Torres, Myriam Gadri, Carol Schuberg, Ehizoje Azeke, Matthew Steffens and Dionne Figgins, kept the dancing moving with steps from the 50s to today. Broadway choreographer and long time supporter Sergio Trujillo was the top fundraiser this year raising 10k to support the organization.
"This event is something that has personally dared to me to go outside of my comfort zone while strengthening my belief in the mission and our programs. Seeing a room full of people from campers to Broadway artists, who not only commit to fundraising but also to complete 5 hours of dancing while supporting one another makes it clear that what RL provides is needed in the world today." says RL executive director, Denisse Ambert,
Proceeds from this event will go towards RL programs that includes the Children's' Performing Arts camp, Adult Education Programs and new plans for their 10th year in 2017.
RL's Dance-a Thon would not be possible without the generous support of Broadway Dance Center, Dramatics, Cafe Frida, Havana Central, L'Oreal, Slate NYC, CHICAGO, Disney Theatricals and Broadway Cares/Equity Fghts AIDS.
