The Department of Dance at The Ohio State University presents of existence: and ways of being, featuring choreographers Noelle Bohaty, s.lumbert and Brandon Whited. The MFA concert is a series of performances and presentations created by the members of the 3rd year class of MFA students in dance as the culminating projects of their graduate studies. The concert will be performed at 8 p.m. tonight, Oct. 29; Friday, Oct. 30; and Saturday, Oct. 31. A matinee will be shown at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31.

Performances will take place at Barnett Theatre in Sullivant Hall, 1813 N. High St. A reception with informal Q&A will follow the Friday evening performance.

The three parts of this performance are the order of things (Noelle Bohaty), s. lumbert's solo, and Cipher XY (Brandon Whited).

the order of things, examines love, loss, fear and relationships across time and reality. Choreographer Noelle Bohaty will direct this original work, based in and around the poetry of Anne Sexton, the mythological story of Icarus and the collective, devised work of company members. It will feature nine performers from the dance and theatre departments, as well as musical composition by Kevin Estes, costume design by Ron Altman and lighting design by Joshua Poston.

s. lumbert's solo is a choreographic collaboration with dance artist Jennifer Nugent, former dancer with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. The piece explores experiment through process and long distance collaboration. Lighting design by Carolyn Cox.

Cipher XY is a choreographic exploration of masculine identity and representation in dance. Choreographer Brandon Whited queries: what is male, what is masculinity and what are the accepted notions of maleness and masculinity? This dance reflects themes of difference through exposure of bodies as they exist in the spaces - between genders, expectations and one another. Lighting design by David Covey.

(Note: there will be some nudity and language)
