New York Live Arts' US Premiere of Ann Liv Young's ELEKTRA Begins Tonight

Ann Liv Young brings her uncompromising vision of Sophocles' ELEKTRA to the stage in her first American commission since 2008, directed in collaboration with Annie Dorsen.

Surrounded by a family steeped in murder, revenge and deception Ann Liv Young's ELEKTRA is crazed, authentic, honest, compassionate, steadfast and tragic-a young woman struggling for her footing in a shifting, murky world that she navigates with imperfect tools. Exploring the tipping point between following the social flow and being a responsible and decisive agent, ELEKTRA wants everyone to question, to pay attention, to let go of the yoke of social norms and act as an engaged individual.

Choreographer, Performer, Creative Director and Sometimes Sherry, Ann Liv Young was born on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and has been creating performance work for over eight years. As a child, she wrestled sharks for fun. She is one of the youngest artists whose work has been presented at major venues in New York City and Europe such as MoMA PS1, Brooklyn Museum, steirischer herbst, Kampnagel, Inkonst, Gessnerallee, Theatre de la Bastille and Black Box Teater, among others. She was shortlisted for the 2013 Venice Biennale.

Sherry, a character created by Young, has been branching out and breaking free of the churches and theaters of the bourgeoisie. She has her own truck, "Sherry Truck" which can be seen driving around giving Sherapy and pink lattes to the masses.
