Tonight, April 26 at 7pm Pre-Professional Division students from Miami City Ballet School will present 12 original works created during a seven month Student Choreography Class - a program new to the School.
The choreography created and performed by advanced students of Miami City Ballet School, will be presented in both the classical ballet and contemporary idiom. Pupils who participated in the new Student Choreography Class have been responsible for all aspects of these works including music selection, lighting, and costume design. A total of 60 students participated in the classes when the course began in September. The Student Choreography Showcase is a culmination of their work.
The performance will be held at Miami City Ballet Studios, Ophelia and Juan Js. Roca Center in the Lynn and Louis Wolfson, II Theatre (2200 Liberty Avenue, Miami Beach). Tickets cost $15. Call the MCB Box office at 305.929.7010, toll free at 877.929.7010 or visit miamicityballet.org.
School Director Darleen Callaghan explains, "This is a wonderful opportunity for our Pre-Professional Division students to explore their own creative processes and to learn about the different aspects that go into creating original works of dance. Not many professional dance schools offer this type of coursework. We look forward to this program developing into a strong component of the School's curriculum. It is also a great way for the community to engage with and support the next generation of professional dancers."
