Maryam Rasheda (Myika) Day to Tour East Coast With VIVER BRASIL, Feb-April

Maryam Rasheda (Myika) Day will return to the stage with the dance company Viver Brasil, lead by Artistic Director and Co-Founder Linda Yudin. Viver Brasil will present an evening of works encompassing the richness and folklore of Afro-Brazilian culture, movement and music, techniques and forms rooted in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil for ten performances.

The tour will visit Bethesda, MD; Queens, NY; Eau Claire, WI; La Crosse, WI; Storm Lake, IA; Council Bluffs, IA.

Maryam will be featured in such works entitled “Avahnia”, “Oxisa”, “In Motion” and “Carnival” choreographed by Associate Director and Guest Choreographer Rosangela Silvestre; who is internationally renowned for her demanding training, the “Silvestre” technique.

Maryam Myika Day (Actress, Writer, Producer) appeared in the Broadway Revival as an original company member in the 2001 revival of 42nd Street. She then continued her musical theatre performance in the highly anticipated movie version of Mel Brooks’ The Producers (starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick). A former principal dancer with the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble she performed nationally and internationally with works by Katherine Dunham, Talley Beatty, Ronald K. Brown and Donald McKayle. Her notable on camera television and film credits include NBC’s Law & Order, FX’s Rescue Me, Sony Pictures’ Fort Pit, feature films, "Noise" and "Indelible" and has voiced radio spots for McDonalds.

Viver Brasil Dance Company was co-founded in 1997 by Co-Artistic directors Linda Yudin and Luiz Badaró, and is an award winning Dance Company firmly rooted in the traditional and contemporary forms and techniques of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. The company specializes in bringing to life the beautiful and complex stories of the Orixa, African sacred energies that are the engine of Afro-Brazilian culture in addition to presenting jubilant samba, Contemporary Afro-Brazilian dance and carnival.
