"Ballroom, salsa, or partner dancing is a fun way to stay fit. During the winter months, the cold temperatures in the Marblehead region can be especially hard on joints and muscles. Ballroom and partner dancing can improve joint and muscle health, while burning calories," said Paula K. Shiff, Director, Marblehead School of Ballet.
People who are preparing for special events such as proms and weddings find participating in ballroom and partner classes are beneficial. "Throughout the year, we work with couples planning to dance at their weddings or the bride and groom's parents want to learn ballroom or partner dances. In our classes, they learn the dances, the technique, and develop their self-confidence. Private lessons are also available for dancers seeking additional instruction," explained Shiff, recipient of Salem State University's 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award in the Arts.
