Popular modern dance company MOMIX performs "Botanica" at the Mayo Performing Arts Center on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 8 pm. Tickets are $29-49.

With an eclectic score ranging from birdsong to Vivaldi, BOTANICA reveals nature's changing imagery. An herbal remedy and natural aphrodisiac, BOTANICA shows off the endlessly renewable energy of the superb MOMIX performers, with costumes, projections and custom-made props and puppetry adding an extra dose of fantasy to the elixir. This is dance at its most organic and inventive. The seasons will never be the same. The Star Ledger calls Botanica: "...is the IMAX version of dance theater; a savvy mix of puppetry, strobe lights and multi-media."

Momix transports audiences from their everyday lives to a fantasy world through its trademark use of magical lighting and imagery. Momix has thrilled fans in over 22 countries and has been featured on stage, screen and television. In an endless search for another gravity, Artistic Director Moses Pendleton combines athletic dance, riveting music, outrageous costumes, inventive props and pure talent to create an entertaining multimedia experience. For 20 years, MOMIX has been celebrated for its ability to conjure up a world of surrealistic images using props, light, shadow, humor and the human body.

In addition to stage performances world-wide, the company has frequently worked on special projects and in film and television. MOMIX has made five Italian RAI television features broadcast to 55 countries (including the USSR and China) and has performed on Antenne II in France. MOMIX was also featured in PBS's "Dance in America" series. The company participated in the "Homage a Picasso" in Paris and was selected to represent the US at the European Cultural Center at Delphi. The company is based in Washington, Connecticut.
