Duo Multicultural Arts Center (DMAC) is pleased to present MADboots dance co. as part of PRIDE @ DMAC (June 16-22). After an eight-week residency at DMAC this Spring, MADboots Co-artistic Directors Jonathan Campbell and Austin Diaz return to the historic Duo Theater to perform works that wowed the dance community this past May. MADboots will perform on Wednesday, June 19 & Thursday, June 20, 2013, 8PM. Admission is $10.
MADboots will present blue (DMAC premiere 2013), a work loosely inspired by Picasso's Blue Period and text by Christopher Moore. A highly physical dream space free of ration and order, this work becomes both somber and austere, wild and sentimental.
The program will also include ALL GOOD SONS. Stocked full of athleticism and the raw need to be heard, ALL GOOD SONS is a dark and brooding romantic rebellion where an almost-hero faces the challenges of isolation and unflinching failure.
Representing a longtime champion of arts in the East Village, DMAC is proud to celebrate Pride by presenting resident artists as part of PRIDE @ DMAC. The Arts Center continues to push boundaries of innovative art incubation and has commenced a new initiative to feature artworks in performative and salon-style atmosphere.
MADboots dance co. was cofounded in 2011 by Jonathan Campbell (Juilliard '10) & Austin Diaz (NYU Tisch '11). The company has since been presented at festivals in Italy, Canada, New York City, and New Jersey, such as the Alto Jonio Dance Festival (Italy), Springboard Danse Montreal, David Parker's Soaking WET, knees and toes/NYs and TOs (Toronto) & DANCENOW Joe's Pub Dance Festival (2012 Challenge Winner). The duo has also taught master classes at Broadway Dance Center, Dance New Amsterdam, Point Park University (Pittsburgh) and Velocity Dance Center (Seattle). MADboots has been generously granted the boo-koo: Round 4 space grant at Gibney Dance Center, the
Inception to Exhibition 2012 Space Grant, and an eight week residency at the Duo Multicultural Arts Center.
