José Mateo Ballet Theatre opens the Company's remarkable 27th Season with a concert of stunning original ballets, by New England's celebrated dance-maker, José Mateo. Featuring a world premiere, Mysterious Arrangements (Oct 5-28) offers a sampling of Mateo's most dramatic and gripping works, at the glorious Sanctuary Theatre in Harvard Square, Cambridge. Mysterious Arrangements is the first of a four-concert repertory series at The Sanctuary Theatre during the 27th Season.
Mysterious Arrangements (October 5-28, 2012)
Mysterious Arrangements features Mateo's acclaimed Time Beyond Time (2005), set to French composer Olivier Messiaen's 'Quartet for the End of Time'. The ballet portrays the profound pain silently shared by an ill-fated couple and their range of emotion through different dimensions of time. Dancers' Overture, set to Bach's 'Overture from Orchestral Suite #2 in B minor', has not graced the stage since its premiere in 2001 at the Company's debut performance at The Sanctuary Theatre. Mateo's highly anticipated premiere will be the first of two during the Season.
Press Night: Friday, Oct. 12, 8:00 pm
The Season offers Boston audiences a new, thrilling theater experience with cabaret-style seating, cocktails during the show and an extraordinarily close-up view of the dancers. Hailed by Boston magazine as "Best of Boston Dance Performance 2011", Mateo's hallmark-style of presenting dance close-up makes dance personal and relevant to today's audiences.
