John Mulaney: KID GORGEOUS

December 1 - 2 • Academy of Music

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, in association with Live Nation, welcomes John Mulaney to the Academy of Music on Friday, December 1, 2017 and Saturday, December 2, 2017. Best known for his work on Saturday Night Live, Mulaney's much-anticipated new tour, Kid Gorgeous, quickly reached capacity at the Kimmel Center, prompting a second and third show to be added.

JAZZ ORCHESTRA OF PHILADELPHIA: MONK'S DREAM - CELEBRATING THE MUSIC OF THELONIOUS MONK

December 2 • Perelman Theater

The Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia (JOP) will make its triumphant return to the Perelman Theater on the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus Saturday, December 2 at 8:00 p.m. The Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia, led by Terell Stafford and joined by special guest pianists Orrin Evans and Eric Reed, will celebrate the music of renowned jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk in Monk's Dream.

THE NATIONAL

December 4 • Verizon Hall

The National are pleased to announce their 7th studio album - Sleep Well Beast - to be released on September 8th on 4AD. Sleep Well Beast was produced by member Aaron Dessner with co-production by Bryce Dessner and Matt Berninger. The album was mixed by Peter Katis and recorded at Aaron Dessner's Hudson Valley, New York studio, Long Pond, with additional sessions having taken place in Berlin, Paris & Los Angeles. Sleep Well Beast is available for pre-order today and will be available in CD, digital and double LP formats.

A SOULFUL CHRISTMAS

December 12 • Verizon Hall

American gospel singer Lady Tramaine Hawkins will be honored at the Philadelphia holiday tradition, A Soulful Christmas, in Verizon Hall on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. This uplifting event returns for its fifth year with a communal gathering of regional choristers performing holiday spiritual, gospel and classic favorites. This year's performance will also feature special guest, Marvin Mills, on the Fred J. Cooper Memorial Organ.

THE COLOR PURPLE

December 12 - 17 • Forrest Theatre

The North American Tour of the Tony Award-winning revival of The Color Purple returns to Philadelphia December 12-17, 2017 as part of Broadway Philadelphia, presented collaboratively by the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and The Shubert Organization.

PHILADANCO: H-I-S-T-O-R-Y

December 15 - 17 • Perelman Theater

Beloved Kimmel Center Resident Company PHILADANCO will perform its fall program at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts' Perelman Theater December 15-17, 2017. H-I-S-T-O-R-Y will feature Walking with Pearl, about historic choreographer and dancer Pearl Primus; the world premiere of Pieces of My Heart, choreographed by Sonia Dawkins based on August Wilson poems; Forces of Rhythm by Tony Award winner Louis Johnson; and a piece from choreographer Geoffrey Holder performed by his wife, special guest artist and Kennedy Center Honors Award winner, Carmen de Lavallade.

AN EVENING WITH BRIAN REED - CREATING S-TOWN: A NEW WAY TO TELL A STORY

December 17 • Merriam Theater

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts welcomes Brian Reed, co-creator and host of groundbreaking podcast S-Town, to the Merriam Theater on Sunday, December 17 at 7:00 p.m. In An Evening with Brian Reed: Creating S-Town: A New Way to Tell a Story¸ Reed will give fans an opportunity to hear in-person how this now legendary podcast was created. He will walk the audience through the process of how he and his collaborators developed an entirely innovative kind of storytelling.

STOMP

December 26 - 31 • Merriam Theater

The Kimmel Center is ecstatic to welcome back STOMP, the international percussion sensation, to the Merriam Theater from Tuesday December 26 through Sunday, December 31, 2017. STOMP started as a street performance in the UK and has grown into an international sensation over the past 25 years. It has performed in more than 50 countries and in front of more than 24 million people.
