Boston-based modern dance company Intimations Dance presents its first full-length program outdoors in Somerville's Davis Square tonight, June 6, at 8:30pm. The free sunset performance takes places in the Bank of America Parking Lot at 406 Highland Avenue, Somerville, MA, and is part of the grant-funded summer series Dancing in the Streets, presented by the Somerville Arts Council.
During this dynamic modern dance performance, Intimations Dance explores themes of obsession, body construct, human interaction, and what is socially acceptable. Interested in the idea of how being watched and leads to purposefully performed behaviors, Intimations Dance implores the audience to reflect on their own experiences "performing" their daily lives. Intimations Dance presents the company's most recent production the fix, a series of shorts on obsession and belonging; Surprise Stefani, a collaboratively-choreographed dance party originally created for National Choreography Month 2015; fan favorite But first, let me take a... a reflection on the "selfie" culture; and the premiere of a new work currently in development, under the mentorship of David Dorfman of New York-based company David Dorfman Dance.
