Hartt Dance will present their Fall Concert on the Lincoln Theater stage November 20 - 22. This season's repertoire is a carefully curated program of works from an impressive range of styles and techniques, staged, choreographed, and directed by the Hartt School's world renowned faculty and guest artists including Diana Byer, Artistic Director of New York Theater Ballet. The program includes Antony Tudor's witty take on Spanish dance and dancers, "Fandango", to the music of Antonio Soler, played by Hartt pianist Agustin Muriago. The piece, for five ballerinas, was coached by one of Mr. Tudor's muses, Hartt faculty member Hilda Morales.
Another faculty member and former principal dancer with Hartford Ballet, Debra Collins-Ryder, has created a new ballet from sections of "La Source". This ballet, originally created for the Paris Opera Ballet by Arthur Saint-Léon in 1866, contains music by Delibes that helped launch his career as a composer. Also on the program is José Limón's "Psalm" which Hartt dancers recently performed in NYC at the Joyce Theater under the direction of Nina Watt. Hartt faculty member Kathryn SwansonEllis (Composition) collaborated on a new version of the original score by Eugene Lester.
Finally, Division Director, Stephen Pier offers a work inspired by the folk inspired choral melodies of Zoltan Kodály on the themes of innocence, loss, and separation. "It is remarkable to see the growth of the program over the last several years and the kind of challenging repertoire we are able to present as a result. We are very thankful for the support we have received from the University and the community to be able to do this. Both our dancers and our audiences are very fortunate to be able to immerse themselves in the Art of Dance at such a high level." - Stephen Pier
