HB Studio, one of New York's most venerable institutions for theater training and practice, will honor cherished Broadway, film and television actress Helen Gallagher on Monday, July 18th for her 90th Birthday in a musical celebration benefiting the HB Studio Scholarship Fund.
One of the original "triple-threats", Helen Gallagher is best known for her iconic work on Broadway, including Make a Wish, Hazel Flagg, Brigadoon, Portofino, High Button Shoes, Guys and Dolls, Sweet Charity (1967 Tony Award nomination, Featured Actress in a Musical), Cry for Us All, Pal Joey (1952 Tony Award winner, Featured Actress in a Musical), Mame and No, No Nanette (1971 Tony Award winner, Best Actress in a Musical and 1971 Drama Desk Award winner, Outstanding Performance). Ms. Gallagher also appeared in the 1977 movie Roseland opposite Christopher Walken, and is perhaps best known to American audiences as Maeve Ryan, the Irish matriarch on the popular television series Ryan's Hope from 1975 to 1989. For her work on Ryan's Hope, Ms. Gallagher was nominated for five Daytime Emmy Awards, winning in 1976, 1977, and 1988. The celebratory evening will be hosted by Broadway veteran David Cryer and actress/choreographer Britt Swanson Cryer. Musical Direction will be by songwriter and performer Robert Grusecki, whose music has been heard in such NYC venues as Avery Fisher Hall, Town Hall, Symphony Space, the Metropolitan Room, and 92nd Street Y.Videos
