About the Work

Borne Dance Company: In collaboration with the Entire company, artistic directors' Katie Kilbourn and Kianna Moye have created a dance experience exploring human nature and human interaction. Drawing inspiration from our culture and daily lives, Borne explores the differences and similarities between humans and why specific groups of people are targeted for their differences. The lack of knowledge of one another affects our very existence on this planet in which all humans inhibit together. Borne Dance Company's work explores how this lack of knowledge affects our daily lives.

Dana Florin-Weiss & Hannah Verrill: The Problem of Two manifests as a sequence of methods, loops of behavior like waves. Caught in the spray, we navigate the condition of being watched and watching back. We cast ourselves as images and then we erode that image over and over to reveal ourselves as agents.

Company/ Choreographer Biographies

Borne Dance Company is a team of collaborating artists led by New York based choreographers Kianna Moye and Katie Kilbourn. Although both choreographers of Borne Dance Co. vary in artistic nuance, they share a common goal of creating work that is communally driven. Moye and Kilbourn began their relationship as collaborators, while studying Dance at the University of the Arts, in Philadelphia. After graduating in 2013, they have gone on to produce, create, and explore their art in New York City. Since moving to New York, Kilbourn has had the opportunity to dance with several companies including Balasole, J/D Dansfolk, IKADA, and Sammy J Dance. Her choreography has been performed at The Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theatre, The Brick Theatre, and The Pearl. Since graduating, Moye has had the opportunity work with critically acclaimed choreographer Sidra Bell as a productions assistant as well present her own work alongside Kilbourn and other New York based artists. As a company, their work has been presented at The Producers Club, BAAD!, Anita's Way, and St. Paul's Theater. Borne offers donation based shows that incorporate dance, music, and media art in hopes to inspire and share different art forms with a wide range of audience members. Their goal is to raise awareness and educate their audience on different social, psychological, and communal issues through artistic expression.

Dana Florin-Weiss is a native of Vermont and grew up watching people make-work in the Bennington College dance department. Now a freelance artist living in Brooklyn, Dana combines her passion for movement with her interest in sound design and the moving image. In her work, she investigates the interplay between the architecture of the body and the physical environment that surrounds it. She has performed with Peggy Florin, Stacy Grossfield, Juliette Mapp, Cathy Weis and is currently in process with Rebecca Davis and Sara Rudner.

Hannah Verrill is an artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. She has been scratching at performance since she was four years old, performing in experimental dance theater works across NYC with Elise Long and Meredith Monk. Her work examines the body as an experiential instrument contending with dynamics of time and space. She uses movement, video, text, and installation to break open this experience, resulting in performance events. She has presented work in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Prague, and recently was an artist-in-residence at Links Hall in Chicago. Hannah has an MFA from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago and a BA from Oberlin College.

FERTILE GROUND is a monthly new works showcase for emerging and established artists now in its 11th season, producing the work of over 50 choreographers each year. This non-curated performance event features five or six choreographers each evening and includes a post-performance discussion with wine and cheese, moderated by Green Space's Artistic Director, Valerie Green.
