All-star Cheerleading Coach Savanna Sibley has just been named All Star Program Director for Las Vegas Elements and she's just in time for tryouts on May 4 & 5. Coach Sibley actually started her cheerleading career at Las Vegas Elements as a kid, 15 years ago. She went on to win four gold medals for Team USA at the ICU World Cheerleading Championships (International Cheer Union) in 2010 and 2011. She's spent the past eight years at Hawaii Pacific University, first as a student and athlete, most recently as Head Cheer Coach.

Sibley says, "I have always wanted to coach and it's been so amazing at the collegiate level and international level. I never in a million years would have expected to return to my home town to be the head coach at the gym where it all started!"

Las Vegas Elements is the first and longest running, competitive cheerleading program in the Las Vegas area. The teams are starting their 15th season; no other gym in the area has the same claim to fame. Owner and coach, Nikci Henigan started her cheerleading adventure at LV Elements as well. "As soon as we heard Savanna might be interested in a new gym, we made the call. Our All-Star competitors are committed, talented, and dedicated. It's exciting to hire a coach with such an impressive track record... plus she's 'one of our own!'"

Sibley's apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Her mom is the head cheerleading coach at Bishop Gorman High School; her sister is the assistant coach at the high school, while serving as cheer coach at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (she too has won national championships). Her dad, two brothers, and cousin (all raised under one roof!) are all champion baseball players. This is one committed, competitive family!

Sibley says, "My siblings are already planning for my move. I've missed so many family events the past eight years. Yes, I'll miss the beaches of Hawaii. But I'll be home!" Sibley will fly in for LV Element's try-outs this coming weekend (May 4 & 5). She'll finish up her season at Hawaii Pacific University and make the move home in the next few weeks.

Season 15 Tryouts: May 4 & 5, 2013 (all levels encouraged to tryout)

Parents sacrifice a lot when their children are competitive athletes, but say it brings success. 'Cheer mom', Maria Deweerdt says, "... all the stats show competitive cheer helps keep our kids out of trouble, on the right track, and creates opportunities for leadership, team bonding, and confidence. Now, Elements is adding a coach that raises the level of competition to an even higher standard."

Sibley would love to provide an interview and is happy to share some tips for try-out's (heads up: "Choose confidence, give it your all, leave all your doubts at the door!"). For interactive interviews, contact: Lucinda Kay, Lucinda(at)lucindakay(dot)com, 509-325-3623.
