Festival Ballet Providence Presents THE LITTLE PRINCE, 4/2-9

Festival Ballet Providence presents the premiere of a multi-media adaptation of one of the best loved stories and most popular children's books ever published. The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's charming interplanetary adventure is the newest installment in its wildly popular chatterBOXtheatre series for young audiences. The ballet will continue on the next two weekends, April 2-April 9, 2017 in its Black Box Theatre, 825 Hope Street, Providence, RI. This exciting production has been adapted and choreographed by Boyko Dossev, also a company dancer; it incorporates music from composer Maxime Goulet, narration by local storyteller Valerie Tutson, original stop-motion animation by FBP dancers Ty Parmenter and Jacob Hoover, scenery from WaterFire Providence, Viktor Plotnikov, and others. The chatterBOXtheatre series is sponsored by Seven Stars Bakery.

The Le Petit Prince has enthralled and touched millions of readers since its publication in 1943. Blending together fantasy, allegory and philosophical reflection, the story has charmed children and fascinated adults as few other books have. Dossev said he has always wanted to choreograph a ballet to this story, adding, "it is a story that reminds us about what is truly important especially in times of great challenge. The journey of the Little Prince is a journey that we all are having."

Mihailo Djuric, FBP's artistic director said, "It is a delight to welcome this newest installment to our chatterBOXtheatre series, which has captivated young imaginations for almost a decade." Djuric added that small Black Box Theatre invites young audiences to sit so close to the dancers that they immerse themselves into the richly imaginative fantasy world of The Little Prince.

One noteworthy element to the ballet is its collaborative elements. The ballet incorporates an original stop-motion video animation, original watercolor illustrations, scenic elements by WaterFire Providence and other artistic collaborators, and narration by local storyteller Valerie Tutson.
