Fall in Love with Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre's LOVE'S PULL

José Mateo Ballet Theatre continues its 31st Company season with Love's Pull, February 17-March 5, 2017 at The Sanctuary Theatre in Harvard Square, Cambridge. Love's Pull features three original works of love, lust and intrigue by 2017 Commonwealth Award recipient José Mateo. The concert also includes JMBT's new Wine Curation program with a wine selection curated by Jen Fields of Alden and Harlow.

A live theater experience like no other, Love's Pull offers reserved cabaret-style seating, beer and wine during the show, and the dancers so close you feel part of the beauty and drama onstage!

From Artistic Director José Mateo on the music featured in Love's Pull
Each performance of Love's Pull also honors the masterful creations by the composers represented. Bach's Cello Suite No. 6 (one of six suites rediscovered by the famous Spanish cellist Pablo Casals) is at once strikingly brilliant in form and deeply moving. Vivaldi's commanding and exuberant concerto, also extending into stirringly emotive ranges, is exemplary of the Venetian virtuoso's compositions that enlivened the music of the Baroque tradition so popular even today.

The music of contemporary Cuban composer Juan Piñera brings our program into the 21st century with Trio Cervantino. The composition has the clarity, soundness of structure and beauty we appreciate in classical music but with a sonic and dramatic range that speaks of the complexities of current day realities. The insight and creativity I find in his work continue to arouse my curiosity and inspire me to explore new directions. I look forward to one day meeting this intriguing composer, also my compatriot.

The Commonwealth Award
On Wednesday, February 15, JMBT's Founder and Artistic Director, José Mateo will receive the 2017 Commonwealth Award - the state's highest honor in the arts, humanities and sciences. This award, given out every two years, will honor Mr. Mateo's many achievements and his impact on the cultural enrichment of Massachusetts and its residents.
