Three Los Angeles-based dance companies come together in a show about breaking apart, each premiering an original work about "Fracture," accompanied by live and recorded music from members of String Theory. Produced by Jones Welsh, Fracture debuts Thursday, September 16 (one performance only), 8:30pm at the Ford Amphitheatre (pre-show/VIP reception at 7pm).
The experimental IN/EX Dance Project created their piece via Internet video from four different geographic locations. Proof That a Body Was Here is choreographed by Maya Zellman (Israel), Ally Voye (Los Angeles), Eva Wilder (San Francisco) and Sarri Sanchez (East Coast), in conjunction with live onstage dancers. "The four of us met at UCLA and we are vastly contrasting styles," says Voye. "But we are interconnected spiritually and that is what the audience will see." Music composition and live instrumental accompaniment is provided by Joseph Harvey, Theo Mondle and Julie Pusch of String Theory.
Invertigo Dance Theatre's work is marked by wit, whimsy and theatricality. WreckTangle is choreographed by Laura Karlin in collaboration with the dancers. "We like to eat up the stage," says Karlin. "Our aim is to take the audience along with us." Musical composition is by Danny Moynahan of String Theory. Method Contemporary Dance lives in a high-speed world, making "perfect unions at the outer limits of physical control" (L.A. Times). telemore, was created by Method 's artistic director Bradley Michaud. Music Composition and live instrumental performance is by Holly & Luke Rothschild.
A pre-show in the entry plaza by Leonix Movement Theatre, offering a series of short comedic vignettes heralds the collaboration. "This will serve to set the tone of evening," affirms producer Jones Welsh. "At some point, the dancers will literally escort the attendees to the evening's performance." Music composition and live accompaniment is by Holly & Luke Rothschild of String Theory. Ticket prices are $35 for adults (pay only $30 through Sept 9) and $12 for students and children. VIP Preferred Seating and Reception is $50.
