Eddy Tovar to Guest Star in Midstate Ballet's THE NUTCRACKER in York, 12/12-13

Eddy Tovar, former principal dancer of Texas Ballet Theatre, will appear as a guest artist in the Midstate Ballet's production of THE NUTCRACKER on December 12 and 13, 2015 at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center in York, Pennsylvania.

Cuban-born, EDDY TOVAR, received his ballet training at the National Ballet of Cuba School in Havana, Cuba. He has also received training at the Studio Dancart in Goinia, Brazil.

In 1998 Mr. Tovar joined the Bale do Estado de Goias in Brazil. In 1999 he joined the Orlando Ballet, and was promoted to principal dancer in 2000.

In 2009 Mr. Tovar left the Orlando Ballet to join Texas Ballet Theater as a principal dancer. In 2012 Mr. Tovar left Texas Ballet Theater and is currently pursuing a career as a freelance guest artist.

Mr. Tovar's principal roles include Franz in Coppelia, Colas and Alain in La Fille Mal Gardee, Basilio in Don Quixote, the title role and Crassus in Spartacus, Prince Charming in Cinderella, the Prince in THE NUTCRACKER, Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake, the Prince in The Sleeping Beauty, Lancelot in Camelot, Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Frederic in The Pirates of Penzance, Paris in Romeo and Juliet, and principal roles in Paquita, La Viviandiere, Raymonda Act III, and Les Sylphides, as well as classical pas de deux, Kermesse in Bruges, Flower Festival At Genzano, Flames of Paris, Esmeralda, Grand Pas Classique, Harlequin, Le Corsaire Pas de Deux, Black Swan Pas de Deux, and Diana and Acteon.

Mr. Tovar has also distinguished himself in contemporary roles in Jose Limon's Mazurka, Robert North's Troy Games, Terrence Henderson's That's Life, Julia Landa's Let's Dance Salsa, Salim Gauwloos' Breathe You In, Fernando Bujones' Jazz Swing, and Bolero, Val Caniparoli's Going For Baroque, Jose Limon's The Mazurka, Bruce Marks' Lark Ascending and Shake It Up, Lila York's Celts, Twyla Tharp's In The Upper Room and Waterbaby Bagatelles, and George Balanchine's Who Cares?, Serenade, Agon, Prodigal Son, Theme and Variations, and Allegro Brillante.

In 1997 Mr. Tovar received the Gold Medal at the Third International Ballet Competition and the Silver Medal at the Alicia Alonso Competition in Havana, Cuba. Also in 1997 Mr. Tovar won the Silver Medal at the Melosur Competition in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and the Grand Prix at the McDonalds Competition in Belo Horizante, Brazil.

In 1998 Mr. Tovar received the Gold Medal at the 1er Danca in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the Silver Medal at the CBDD in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the Grand Prix at the Joinville Competition in Joinville, Brazil.

In 2000 Mr. Tovar won the Gold Medal at the Youth American Grand Prix in Boca Raton, Florida. In 2003 he was a finalist at the New York International Ballet Competition, in 2005 he was a finalist at the Helsinki International Ballet Competition in Finland, and in 2006 Mr. Tovar was a finalist at the International Ballet Competition in Jackson, Mississippi.

In 2008 Mr. Tovar danced one of the principal roles in George Balanchine's Who Cares? on the television show, "So You Think You Can Dance".

Mr. Tovar has been a permanent guest artist with the Los Angeles Ballet, and has appeared as a guest artist with many regional ballet companies in the United States. Mr. Tovar has also participated in international dance festivals.
