Danza Contemporanea de Cuba Comes to Edinburgh's Festival Theatre May 15-16, UK

Danza Contemporanea de Cuba dance company return to the UK in spring 2012 with a programme including the world premiere of a piece by award-winning choreographer and influencer of modern dance Itzik Galili, and another chance to experience the incredible Mambo 3XX1. They will perform at the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh on Tue 15 & Wed 16 May at 7.30pm.

The outstanding Mambo 3XX1, created by resident choreographer and dancer George Céspedes and nominated for both and Olivier and TMA award for his outstanding contribution to dance, was featured also in the 2010 UK tour.

Commissioned by Sadler’s Wells, DanceEast and Dance Consortium, George Céspedes’ Mambo 3XXI was nominated for both an Olivier Award and a TMA Award in 2010. Itzik Galili has more than 60 choreographic works to his name and has created works for international companies including A Linha Curva for Rambert Dance Company in 2009 which was nominated for 3 Awards in the UK, Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, NDT2 and Stuttgart Ballet. Kenneth Kvarnström’s Carmen?! is a clever contemporary interpretation featuring Bizet’s beautiful music arranged by Rodion Shchedrin.

Danza Contemporanea de Cuba have for 50 years produced dancers with a style evoking the sensual, mystical and raw heart of Cuban spirit. Collaborations with international leaders in dance have combined with the Afro Caribbean and Spanish fusions to produce a distinct expression of all that is Cuban.
