LOS ANGELES - Skilled Dancer/Choreographer MARK YAMOR confronts the "War-on-Drugs" in the World Premiere of his provocative solo dance performance, "THE HERETIC WITH A THOUSAND FACES", at Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica beginning June 24th.
With four special performances presented by Highways and Hungry Wolf Productions, "
THE HERETIC WITH A THOUSAND FACES" offers a valuable and seldom heard perspective on America's "drug problem". Yamor combines dance, art, photography, horticulture, and literature, sprinkled with undeniable scientific facts, to redefine the drug war as a religious and cultural conflict, one which has no place in a society that claims to value tolerance. This calls into question the "wisdom" of incarcerating individuals who are merely looking for a way to relieve pain, improve mood, or alter consciousness.
Yamor is excited to unveil his new show, adding "Legal drugs kill, injure, and enslave in addiction far more people than all 'illegal' drugs combined. Through this show, I hope to advance the public's knowledge of drugs beyond the gross distortions and outright lies that have characterized this war for nearly a century."
Yamor is a dancer, choreographer, poet, horticulturist, and shamanic practitioner. Throughout his career, he has worked with numerous celebrated artists, including Murray Louis, Margalit Oved Marshall, Heidi Duckler, Laurie Sefton, and Rachel Rosenthal. His experience led him to become the director of and performer in The LaChaim Bottle Dancers, as well as a soloist with The New York Grand Opera Ballet. Yamor created, directed, choreographed, and danced in
"The Bridge of Smoke" and
"The Freedom Project: Revolution by Consciousness," which was performed at the established experimental theater Dance Theater Workshop. Yamor is currently working on a book of poetry tentatively titled, "The Wild Man Beyond The Wall".
