DANCE NOW presents the premiere of Ellis Wood's The Juggler of Our Ladies, April 29 and 30 at 7pm, at Joe's Pub at The Public (425 Lafayette Street, between East 4th Street and Astor Place). Tickets are $15 in advance/$20 at the door and can be purchased by calling 212-967-7555, online at www.joespub.com, and in person at The Public Theater box office from 1pm to 6pm.
The Juggler of Our Ladies brings to the stage four generations of female performers. The dance depicts different phases of a woman's life: innocence, struggle, perseverance, discovery, and self-realization. Set to original music by Daniel Bernard Roumain, the piece combines highly technical and intensely physical movement with raw and revealing expression. The performers, ranging in age from 10 to 80, include former Martha Graham dancers Ellen Graff and Marni Wood, as well as Dexter Carlson, Caitlyn Johansen, Emily McDaniel, Stella Nakada, and Ellis Wood. Costumes are by Naoko Nagata.
