The program includes dances by four choreographers, Kathy Hassinger, Donald McKayle, Margot Parsons and Ali Smith. The first piece, "Drawn In" is inspired by a poem, "In Passing" by Stanley Plumly poet laureate of Maryland who will be reading his poem before the dance begins. Robert Murrell, a visual artist will project his drawings with the help of Dean Capper, media artist, as backdrops and then draw links in the context of the dance to enhance the narrative. The music is by Steve Reich, "Music for 18 Musicians." The dancers are Samantha Govoni, Li-Ann Lim, Lauren Previte, Dondre Taylor-Stewart and Dahne Yaitanes. Donald McKayle's, "Rainbow Etude" will be performed by Dondre Taylor-Stewart, a former student at the Ailey school. Ali Smith, assistant director of Dance Currents Inc. will present "Sculpt" with music by Arnalds. Margot Parsons, artistic director of DanceVisions will be showing two dances, "When", with dancer Ann Gaziano and music by Jeroen van Veen, Prelude nr21 in B flat, and "All Right Back Here" (2014) with dancers Marin Orlosky-Randow and Ethan Pravetz performed to Plantio do caboclo by Heitor Villa-Lobos.
Dance Currents Inc. is thrilled to present and collaborate with so many fine artists, and especially pleased that Mr. Plumly is travelling from Maryland to read his poetry in conjunction with "Drawn In."
