This fall The Dance Complex renews and refreshes its commitment to bringing dance performance to its Central Square home through the Fall Performance Series at The Dance Complex. With a vibrant history of hosting inter/ national and regional dance for over 20 years, The Dance Complex ushers in an era to see dance anew.
On September 7, 6pm, join the Series' artists for a preview party with pop-up performances, refreshments and a chance to mingle with the companies performing that fall. The Fall Performance Series artists and companies, with dates of performances, are detailed below.
Executive Director Peter DiMuro sees the role of The Dance Complex as a unique one, engaging audiences with dance. "Our job," says DiMuro, " is to offer a portal for those new to dance as well as to offer a new perspective for the already dance-savvy audience. Our intimate settings allow us to illuminate the dance in our spaces. Our Fall Performance Series at The Dance Complex will reveal proven works, performers and choreographers as well as bright new dance art and artists. We delight in the dialogue with and among our audiences, the artists themselves and this dimensional, curious world of dance."
Highlights include: September's debut of a company comprised of professionals whose dance lives began at Boston Arts Academy; in October, the hosting of international Flamenco stars Ramon and Nino de los Reyes (like father, like son!) along with several colleagues from Spain, Mexico and across the US in a weekend festival; and Holiday treats in December, including an irreverent holiday vaudeville, and The Dance Complex's own Youth and Family classes perform- in a first ever holiday offering, Deck The (Odd Fellow's) Hall!
But the most momentous highlights may occur in early November: Jennifer Nugent and Paul Matteson (both formerly of Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane & Co) join The Dance Complex in a one-time only, devised performance, Saints & Lies & Sinners & Truths on November 1; on November 2,Green Street Studios and The Dance Complex, both core fixtures in the Boston dance scene, will present Holding Hands While Dancing in a joint benefit performance. Executive Director of Green Street, Lorraine Chapman and DiMuro will appear on stage and in action, along with Anna Myer and Dancers and David Parker and The Bang Group in performances that take the audience "on tour" to both Green Street Studios and The Dance Complex.
