In the coming months, The Dance Complex will create a new studio on street level in its home at 536 Massachusetts Avenue in Central Square. The expansion of more space dedicated to all dance and movement arts and artists, long ensconced in their upper level studios and theatre, will further The Dance Complex' contribution to the cultural life of Cambridge. The Dance Complex is helping satisfy the great demand for diverse dance performance and education in Central Square and throughout the metro area.

The Dance Complex building, owned by the non-profit organization, includes street level storefronts. Architects are currently being engaged to create plans for the transformation of one of those storefronts to a 20' x 35' all purpose dance studio, that will serve as a flexible space for other dance and cultural events. Details will be shared as they become available in the coming weeks. Executive Director Peter DiMuro, along with the Board of Directors, will announce campaigns for community input and for funding the project.

This announcement comes as plans for expanded performances and programs for the fall and winter of 2013 are taking place to build on the great and vibrant tradition of dance and dance artists' presence within The Dance Complex and in Central Square.

At The Dance Complex:

  • 1200+ plus students (beginning to professional) take class weekly;
  • 60+ faculty, many internationally renown, teach weekly;
  • Artistic programming, including performances of dance and other mediums, artistic mentoring and residency programs help sustain dance and arts, and performing artists year round;
  • 125 active Work Study Exchange participants help sustain the organization, rounding out a permanent staff of 5 and an active working board.
