Dance Academy USA, the largest dance academy in Northern California, has announced that Capoeira classes will be offered during their summer schedule. Capoeira classes will be offered as a five week summer session, beginning June 24 and commencing July 26. Classes will be held Thursdays starting at 7:30 in studio G, taught by Capoeira expert, Ray Soncio. Students will have the option to choose classes to accommodate their busy schedules, and will have the option to purchase classes on an hourly basis.
Capoeira is a fast growing cultural art-form that combines elements of martial arts and dance which was brought to Brazil from Angola and has become a leading martial art form in Brazil. Capoeiristas use musical instruments, such as the berimbau, pandeiro and atabaque, to coordinate their movements and fighting styles to the rhythms of song. Taught by Ray Soncio, Capoeira students can expect a high-energy aerobic workout, filled with music and dance. When asked about offering Capoeira classes, owner and director of Dance Academy USA, Jane Carter, says, "This is an opportunity to offer the community classes in a culturally-rich dance that has increased in popularity tremendously in recent years. Pop culture continues to embrace dance."
Those interested in Capoeira classes and or other DAU Summer Programs are encouraged to complete the summer registration form located at DanceAcademyUSA.com and include their payment for desired services camps, intensives, classes and/or class card.
