Midway through its run of performances, the producers of Dancing with the Stars: Live in Las Vegas at the New Tropicana Las Vegas have extended the show's run to August 5, 2012. The lively stage production based on the smash ABC hit Dancing with the Stars will continue to entertain Las Vegas audiences through most of the summer.
Channeling the Vegas vibe, Dancing with the Stars: Live in Las Vegas is an 80-minute live entertainment show that brings the excitement of Dancing with the Stars to life. Set at the New Tropicana Las Vegas, Dancing with the Stars: Live in Las Vegas transports the stars of the show to the stage for a night of sexy, stunning and surprising performances. The Tropicana Theater transforms into the Dancing with the Stars ballroom six nights a week, showcasing fan-favorite dances from past seasons along with new and thrilling routines.
In addition to the extended performances, Dancing with the Stars: Live in Las Vegas will alter its schedule, switching its dark day from Tuesday to Friday, beginning July 9. The high-energy production will still perform seven shows per week.
The Dancing with the Stars format launched as Strictly Come Dancing in the UK in 2004 Dancing with the Stars, produced by BBC Worldwide Productions, premiered on ABC in 2005 as the U.S. version of the smash hit series. Both Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing with the Stars continue to be juggernaut ratings winners on both sides of the pond. Additionally, the DWTS format has been licensed to more than 40 countries across six continents and has been broadcast in over 80 countries around the world. The Guinness Book of World Records announced in 2010 that Dancing with the Stars/ Strictly Come Dancing is officially the world’s most successful reality TV format based on format sales, viewing figures and spin-off shows. The format was also named the most-watched entertainment show in the world by trade publication TBI in 2008. The show has been lauded by viewers and critics alike and has won countless awards. In 2009, DWTS made Emmy® history, garnering 10 nominations, the most for any non-fiction programming in a single award year. Since 2006, the show has won eight Emmys, and has been nominated 49 times. It has also been the recipient of two People’s Choice Awards (2008 and 2009), the first ever Game Show Award (2009) and most recently, a 2012 NAACP Image Award winner and a 2012 GLAAD Media Award winner for Outstanding Reality Series.
Shows are now at Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday: 8 p.m., Sunday: 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Friday: Dark.
