Common Ground Dance to Present 2014 Benefit Concert, 3/15-16

Common Ground Dance Company's dancers come from Baltimore County and beyond, sharing their passion for the art of dance, and ask you to join them for Common Ground's 15th season of supporting dance and dancers in Maryland. The 8th Annual Dancing for a Common Ground Concert will create an opportunity for young dancers to perform with professional companies. Performances will be given 7 p.m. March 15, and 2 p.m. March 16, in the John E. Ravekes Theatre, CCBC Dundalk, 7200 Sollers Point Road, Dundalk, Md.

Part of Common Ground Dance Company's mission is to mentor young dancers and to make dance accessible for all ages. Common Ground Dance Company's Annual Benefit Concert will feature both professional dance companies and student companies from area high schools and dance studios. This year, a portion of the proceeds from our Annual Benefit concert will be supporting the Kennedy Krieger Institute's Dynamic Dance Therapy program.

This season, Common Ground presents modern and contemporary works from area choreographers: Melinda Blomquist, Janelle Kornecki, Renée Newberry, Anne O'Brien, Darby Pack, and artistic director Jill Vasbinder Morrison. Kornecki and Newberry present pieces that invite you examine your relationships with loved ones and with yourself. Morrison questions the voice of girls and women in today's societal landscape. O'Brien and Pack take a look at community, each from very different viewpoints. Blomquist examines the idea of individuality while having community unity.

Dancing with Common Ground this year are: Erin Gum, Jennifer Hegner, Dyana Janoscak, Janelle Kornecki, Sylvia Nelson, Renée Newberry, and Lindsay Stallings; Bria Murphy is an apprentice to the company; and Maria Vitery as an understudy in the company.

The Dancing for a Common Ground Concert will feature talented artists from Maryland and the surrounding areas, including:

•Baltimore Dance Tech-Reverence and Adagio Ensembles, performing Worship Inside of Me, by Stephanie Powell;

•Chesapeake High School, performing Celebration and Almost;

•Dancemoves Troupe, under the direction of Anne O'Brien, performing All But One, by Carrie Hammond Roemer;

•Design in Motion Dance, performing Every Season, by Allie Hitt;

•Desiree Koontz-Nachtrieb, presenting her work And We Fell Softly;

•George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology, presenting two works: Diamond Project, by Stephanie Powell; and Jam Session, by Maria Royals;

•Maryland Performing Arts Center, presenting Kelsy Kocur's work King Of Swing;

•Trajectory Dance Project, presenting two works by Alice Howes: Incantation and Trespasses.

Join us for Common Ground's Annual Benefit Concert Dancing for a Common Ground, at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 15, and 2 pm. Sunday, March 16, in the John E. Ravekes Theatre, CCBC Dundalk, 7200 Sollers Point Road, Dundalk, Md.
