Choreographers Karl Jay-Lewin, Matthew Bourne and More Highlight Traverse Theatre Dance Festival, Nov 5-9

This year, the Traverse celebrates its fifth annual Dance Festival with a programme of world-class contemporary dance from Scotland and around the UK. The companies forming this impressive programme are plan B, Karl Jay-Lewin and Matteo Fargion, Joss Arnott Dance, Anna Krzystek and David Hughes Dance Scotland. The five-day festival will feature world-class choreographers including Karl Jay-Lewin and Matthew Bourne, running Tuesday 5 - Saturday 9 November 2013.

plan B return to the Traverse after the hugely successful Shoogle Project in 2011, with a piece that couldn't be more different - More Sky Than We Need is a reflective, serene meditation on how the forces of nature affect us (5 Nov).

Joss Arnott Dance brings an all-female double bill of work. Threshold, which was hailed as a 'must-see performance' by LondonDance when it toured in 2010, is paired with the hotly anticipated Record of Events, a departure into a more theatrical style for the company (6 Nov).

Eminent choreographer Karl Jay-Lewin and composer Matteo Fargion's Extremely Bad Dancing to Extremely French Music is a collection of no less than 50 piano and dance solos. Ranging from the absurdly funny to the intensely moving; they're sure to surprise and inspire (7 Nov).

In No End, Anna Krzystek blends a starkly contemporary aesthetic with recorded footage, bringing the principles of movement back to basics. A sense of humour permeates this piece which takes the concept of 'waiting' as a starting point (8 Nov).

The Festival ends with David Hughes Dance Scotland, who bring work from a host of stellar choreographers. Bob Cohan - often lauded as the 'godfather of UK modern dance', is joined by the first hit from Matthew Bourne, and work from Cathy Marston and Tanja Liedtke. By turns quirky, fun and surprising,Something Old, Something New... is set to delight (9 Nov).

Revealing unadulterated insights into thoughts on life, performance and Art, No End is both an ending and a new beginning. No End is the fifth and final piece in a series of interdisciplinary works based on the premise of waiting.

Something Old, Something New...

David Hughes Dance will stimulate audiences with an evening of pure dance delight. The company will present a mixed programme featuring four works from genuine icons of dance, casting a glance both ahead to its future and back into its past.
