Over the past 8 years Alias Dance Project (ADP) has produced theatrically innovative and compelling works. Through deconstructing traditional dance forms and generating a risk taking movement aesthetic, Alias Dance Project continually challenges the Toronto dance audience's perception of contemporary art.
f.stop / let the light in is ADP's first full evening of original Alias works. The program features the premiere of two new works by choreographer Francesca Chudnoff and one new work by Lauren Cook, a remount of Euphotic Depth (Lauren Cook & Troy Feldman, 2014). The cast is made up of Caitlin Amodeo, Francesca Chudnoff, Lauren Cook, Amanda Davis, Nigel Edwards, Troy Feldman and Catherine Turcotte.
Through shifting states of consciousness, f.stop / let the light in guides us through a tunnel of lightness and darkness, revealing the challenges of those trapped inside. Lauren Cook has reimagined and sculpted the bare dance space into an entirely new landscape for survival. The dancers navigate through this intimate world with fearless abandon as if dismantled from their humanity, fighting to build shelter and find comfort. The confines of the small studio setting forces the audience into the role of voyeur, being witness to every feral impulse.
After building a reputation as a leader of innovative artistic collaborations in Toronto, ADP moves forward in establishing a unique dance experience that is distinctly of the Alias spirit. f.stop / let the light in is a result of years of research in the studio, integrating diverse movement styles and backgrounds into a combined vocabulary of contemporary dance, martial arts, parkour, various street dance styles and alternative partnering techniques. With the collective energy of many artists and collaborators, combined with the company's opening of The Cornerstone Studio; a new home for creation and performance, this mixed program marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for ADP.
