Cary, N.C. -- National Dance Day is an annual celebration that encourages Americans to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and fight obesity. This year, Starpath Dance Academy is bringing National Dance Day to the Cary community as it hosts a free dance class at 8:30 a.m., today, July 26, at the Mills Park Softball Fields.

Starpath Dance Academy will be teaching Cary community members the official National Dance Day Dance provided by The Dizzy Feet Foundation. The dance will be performed all across the country on July 26.

According to Eat Smart, Move More NC, two-thirds of the adult population in North Carolina is overweight or obese, and North Carolina ranks fifth-worst in the United States for childhood obesity, making it important to bring this message to our community.

"Using dance as a means to stay healthy is a very important message that we want to send to everyone, not just our dancers," said Lindsey Kaplowitz, founder and artistic director of Starpath Dance Academy. "Besides being a great way to express oneself creatively, dance is a fun way to stay fit. Events like National Dance Day help bring that message to communities across the United States."

"So You Think You Can Dance" Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe created the Dizzy Feet Foundation in 2009 with the aim of supporting, improving, and increasing access to dance education in the United States. Now in its fourth year, National Dance Day annually reminds people of the importance of dance and its many benefits. Since its launch, it earned a United States Congressional Resolution and has been supported by the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and Grand Park LA.

To participate in Cary's version of National Dance Day, join Starpath Dance Academy on Saturday, July 26 at 8:30am at Mills Park Softball Fields, located at 425 Mills Park Drive.

Starpath Dance Academy is an exciting new dance school in West Cary offering classes for students ages 18 months through adulthood. The Academy supports each student with professionalism and passion as they set dance goals and achieve them - whether they want to stay fit, make friends, build self-confidence, have fun, or become professional dancers.
